ovi

Ovi is a health and activity tracker mobile app and smart collar for cats and dogs. The application analyzes location and vital signs data from the collar and alerts the user of any changes in the pet's temperature, heart rate, or sleep schedule. Users then have the option to send the information to their veterinarian to determine if action is needed. The Ovi app offers a subscription-based telemedicine service, in which users can schedule appointments with their vets, video chat for quick questions, or receive urgent care with an available vet in the Ovi network. Ovi was named after the Ovinnik, a mischievous spirit from pre-Christian Poland that protected barns and animals.

Design

The Ovi project started by conducting interviews with representative users to gain insights into the needs of pet owners. From the gathered information I created three personas to establish a concrete understanding of users for a more focused design. After creating low and mid fidelity wireframes, I used paper prototypes to test the application with potential users, allowing the interface to be quickly improved and streamlined. I repeated the process with digital prototypes to further refine the user experience. The design phase of the interface focused on clean and simple typography and iconography, embellishments were kept to a minimum to avoid distractions. The colours of the interface are desaturated to create a soft and inviting feeling toward the user. This is complemented by the curves and lack of hard corners in the graphic elements. For the logotype, I chose the typeface Router to give a playful vibe to the brand, and the ‘O’ was modified with the addition of a set of ears to create an image of a dog or a cat.
