transition
Transition is the theme of this year’s European Union Circular Business Conference. This event was initiated as a platform to mobilize industry stakeholders, politicians, and the public around the challenges and opportunities that come with the transition to a circular economy—A shift from “take, make, consume, and dispose” to a circular model in line with the constraints of resource availability and preservation of sustainable living conditions. The conference will nurture debates though a free exchange of ideas among EU decision makers and representatives of industrial sectors.
Design
During the entrance of the term “circular economy” in Europe, the direction of the conference naturally shifted from what to how. The theme for this year’s conference was based on one concept: transition. Transition represents a fundamental change in the way goods are produced, consumed, and disposed in order to achieve crucial sustainability goals.
With the main demographic of the conference being mature business people and politicians, the design had to be professional, with upbeat elements to symbolize optimism. I created a logo mark that represents the constant change and movement of our economic model by the use of open concentric circles with different rotation angles. The colour palette consists of a bright cobalt blue, sky blue, and lime green which represent industry, the public, and the natural world respectively. Gradients were also used to strengthen the concept of change, from dark to bright, or wasteful to conscious. I selected the typefaces Frank New and Gotham to maintain a contemporary and professional feel while still being friendly and optimistic.
